We are located in Shingle Springs, CA. This is located on the Hwy 50 side about 13 minutes east of Folsom.
As a buyer please note that any rabbit sold from our rabbitry with a pedigree gives Little D Rabbitry breeding rights. It is important to our rabbitry to have quality rabbits for future generations. With that being said, there are times that we may need to reintroduce a lineage back into our breeding program. This rarely happens, but note that you might get a call, text or email from us requesting a breeding need.
Rabbits are wonderful pets and very smart. There are some breeds that have a better temperament than others. So if you have children, do your research on temperaments of rabbits. As with any pet, you should always supervise young children when handling animals of any kind, its no different with rabbits.
No, due to biosecurity reasons we have a closed rabbitry.
Yes, all our rabbits are pure breed. We do line-breeding and outcross breeding in our rabbitry. We cull any rabbit from our breeding program that does not meet ARBA standards. This ensures quality rabbits. If you're interested in meat rabbits only, ask if we have any soft culled rabbits available, if we do we sell these at a discounted price.
Thers no bad age to get a rabbit. However if looking to buy young ones that is a different story. Kits should be with the moms until weaning has been completed. We begin the weaning process around 6 weeks, though usually mom has already taken care of this process. By 8 weeks they should be all done and ready to go to their new homes.
This is a personal preference. Many people keep their rabbits inside. There are benefits to each. You will have to do some research to see which one is best for you. There are so many options on outside set ups, just make sure that the rabbit is in a secure area from predators and that you provide a comfortable and save environment.
Our rabbits produce large litters and weights always seem to be above average.
If you're looking for meat pens or meat rabbit typical weights that we have tracked: At 4 weeks of age the kits are averaging 1.75 lbs., at 8 weeks they're averaging 4 to 5 lbs., and at 10 weeks averaging 5.5 to 6 lbs. We find that our fryers are ready anytime between 8 and 10 weeks of age. Weights are different per breed and also range drastically depending on the feed regimen you use. We follow a very strict meat pen feeding formula for optimal meat to bone ratio.
No, we do not ship our rabbits. We will not drive further than a 15-mile radius of Cameron Park. Those outside of that radius can contact us to see what we can do. There may be a fee for delivery. We will schedule a pickup at a public place, usually a feed or pet store. Make sure you bring some type of transportation carrier with you to take your rabbit home so that they are safe on the journey. If you purchase multiple rabbits, make sure you bring enough carriers. Not all rabbits can transport in the same carrier. Traveling to their new home is already stressful on the rabbits, therefore please don't bring other pets or children that will be playing with them during this transition.
Rabbits are live stock and therefore are unpredictable. This unpredictability also can come in to play when breeding. Unless otherwise specified in the sale, rabbits are not proven as breeders and again we can not guarantee reproduction.
We cannot guarantee health of the rabbit(s) after they leave our rabbitry. There are vital components to keeping your rabbit healthy: Food, Water, Environment, Stress and your treatment of the rabbit once you have it are to name a few.
